SHOW RESULTS FOR BOTH MILEOAK BRUCE ALMIGHTY AND MILEOAK SHADOW OF A DOUBT
Showing is a very rewarding pastime, yes it can be frustrating and yes it can be very hard at times, knowing the animal that is the love of your life is sent packing from the ring without any acknowledgement whatsoever. We though were once reminded that you always take the best dog home!!
Judging is very subjective, yes there is a breed standard that judges "should" follow, but at the end of the day it is personal preference.
Our boys are what are termed "Old Fashioned Newfies". We have had this said to us on a number of occassions, as for example Bruce has massive bone and for a 2 and half year old he is one of the biggest boned newfs on the show circuit, with a "Traditional" type square head.
Bruce is solid, he is big, he has a short stocky neck and is more like your prop forward in the Rugby team, who is the powerhouse and the driving force of the side.
We believe strongly in the old fashioned Newfie, as it is a draught dog, it is a life saver, it must have the ability to pull carts and swim through tough seas. He should be a worker.
Some shows we walk away with accolades, others we are told to go without a thing
Each of our boys have picked up awards at Championship shows, and each of our boys have been to Crufts. Bruce has even picked up a superb 4th place at this famous venue.
But it matters not as on each occassion, we have arrived with the best dogs, we have enjoyed our day with them and we have left with the best dogs, and what happened in between doesnt matter one jot!!!
So would we recommend you show your dog...................Oh yes we would!!!
Check out the below video. one day we hope this will happen to a newfie at crufts......
Bruce - on 20th March 2006 (Aged 12 months)
| 11th October 2005 | Bruce attended his first show where he gained a creditable 2nd against a very well turned out and experienced handler of a Ridgeback in the "All Varieties" Minor Puppy Class at the Leigh Canine Society Show 2005. |
| 15th October 2005 | Bruce achieved 3rd in class (Minor Puppy) at the Northern Newfoundland Club Show on 15th October 2005 (Aged 7 months). |
| 19th November 2005 | In only his third outing Bruce attended the Burnley and District Canine Society Show at Bacup Hall Leisure Centre. 246 entrants competed in a very good quality field in which Bruce won both the Junior and Puppy classes for the Newfoundland breed, which at only 8 months of age was a temendous feat.
He then went forward to the Best Puppy in show competition against a very strong and experienced field and he picked up the "Reserve Best Puppy in Show" award. The winner on the day was a beautiful Bouvier, and Bruces acheivement was all the more remarkable as a Newfoundland had moments earlier won the best in show for the adults. A great day for the Newfoundland breed, but a wonderful day for Bruce. Photos were taken on the day by the Ourdogs Newspaper reporter, so please check out there website or paper for full details (www.ourdogs.co.uk) |
